What is Sunnyside & Woodside Mutual Aid?
- Sunnyside & Woodside Mutual Aid empowers individuals in our neighborhoods to actively contribute and take care of each other in so many ways. All these ways matter, whether it is donating/delivering groceries to neighbors currently in need, sharing medical supplies safely, or putting on a virtual dance party to alleviate the loneliness and boredom with which many struggle during this present moment.
- So many of us have needs, and so many of us can offer help; Sunnyside & Woodside Mutual Aid is built on neighbors getting to know each other as full people, and on the beauty and power of our own community’s help and meeting our own community’s needs.
- We do most of our collaboration here on the messaging app Slack.

Slack Guidelines for Sunnyside & Woodside Mutual Aid:
- Kindness and Collective Responsibility. We each are responsible for the culture in this space and in the real-world community. Activity or work resembling harassment or based in any form of prejudice or bigotry is not acceptable in our community. Any problematic behavior will be addressed with a framework of restorative justice, and efforts will be made to help those espousing harmful views to learn and grow. In cases of continued harmful behavior, those causing harm may be asked to leave the community. All community members are empowered to address problematic behavior directly, and others in this space are always here to help. This space belongs to all of us.
- Foster Trust and Be Mindful of Bad Actors: Please upload a profile picture, and include general information about you in your profile (e.g., pronouns and/or cross streets) so people know you are a real person. If you are under 18, please note "<18 years old" in your profile name, so that we can all look out for each other. We careful about sharing personal iinformation (phone number, address, financial info) in chat spaces where you do not know everyone. Treat this space as semi-public.
- Prioritize the Vulnerable: Even the fact that we are doing this on Slack means that some of our neighbors without smartphones or computers or neighbors who are unbanked will not be able to access these resources. With their permission, you can feel free to post things related to their needs, but be mindful of their privacy and dignity.
- What Happens in Real Life Matters: Be neighborly, kind, and humane out in the world. Look beyond yourself. Slack is a tool to enable our real-world relationships. It is not a replacement for real-world relationships. We are all we've got.
By participating in this platform you agree to these guidelines.
